Action for Climate Empowerment in Long-Term Climate Strategies

The Community for Practical Learning on ACE and the Space for Exchange about LTCS held a session for analysing the relevance of incorporating Action for Climate Empowerment into Long-Term Climate Strategies.

On 14 December, the virtual exchange session was held at the intersection of two of its most active exchange spaces:  the Community for Practical Learning on Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE),a community of practice promoted by the International and Ibero-America Foundation for Administration and Public Policy (FIIAPP) and the Regional Bureau of Education for Latin America and the Caribbean (OREALC/UNESCO Santiago) in the framework of the EUROCLIMA+ programme, and the Space for Exchange on Long-Term Climate Strategies (LTCS), jointly facilitated by FIIAPP, GIZ, ECLAC and UN Environment in the context of the initiative Regional Collaboration on transparency and fulfilment of Nationally Determined Contributions and capacity-building for Long-Term Climate Strategies.

As a result of the collaborative work and the commitments made by the participants in this session, a series of proposals and recommendations were identified on how to integrate ACE as a cross-cutting element in the Long-Term Climate Strategies.

In general terms, the following conclusions were highlighted:

  • The importance of developing inclusive languages and ensuring access to information in an effective and understandable way for civil society.
  • Citizen participation as a cross-cutting and binding component in the LTCS.
  • Incorporation of dialogue on knowledge in the LTCS.
  • Development of new experiences for the monitoring and evaluation of the ACE component in LTCSs.

Similarly, progress was also made in the development of proposals on each of the ACE elements, which expanded the general conclusions. Multi-stakeholder and cross-sectoral work stand out as a strategic line of work for the proper implementation and effectiveness of the Strategies with ACE components.
