Work advances for the territorialization of climate action in Cuba

The action is working with four territories that will serve as a pilot for the implementation of climate action strategies at the subnational level.

On February 16 and 17, the workshop "Inserting the climate dimension in the territories" was held in Havana, Cuba, an activity that brought together representatives of various Cuban ministries, such as the Ministry of Finance and Prices, the Ministry of Economy and Planning and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment; from the financial sector, representatives of the Central Bank of Cuba and the Bank of Credit and Commerce. Also participating were Cuban civil society organizations and representatives from the territories of Cabaiguán, Isla de la Juventud, Guanabacoa and San Antonio del Sur.

The two-day activity sought to strengthen coordination between the Cuban Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment, the agencies implementing the action and the territories involved in the action.

The activities explored challenges at the municipal level for climate action in terms of efficiency, capacity building, and the involvement of more actors, as well as the opportunities and needs for climate finance for the implementation of actions.

This workshop is part of the "Insertion of the climate dimension in territorial development planning" that Euroclima is implementing in Cuba, which seeks to contribute to the decentralization of climate change policy in Cuba and its territorial implementation, in line with its national plan “Tarea Vida” (Life Work or Life Task).
