More management less risk: capacity building for small and medium-sized producers in Brazil

The training is part of the activities of the Innovative Risk Management Instruments action to increase the resilience of small-scale producers in the agricultural sector in Brazil.

Brasilia, 7 March 2023. With a webinar organised by EUROCLIMA in conjunction with the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply of Brazil, the process of capacity building of small and medium farmers in the country on risks in rural activity began, which seeks to use innovative modalities of continuing education to support the sector to advance the resilience of small farming families.

The event included interventions by representatives of the Brazilian Ministries of Finance and of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, who valued the initiative and expressed ministerial support for this process, highlighting the importance of capacity building in the sector and its link with the public policies being developed at the national level in the agricultural sector.

This training is part of the series of activities defined in the action Innovative Risk Management Instruments action to increase the resilience of smallholder farmers in the agricultural sector in Brazil, which includes a pilot with women coffee producers in the south of the country.

The training is being led by the Foundation of the Federal University of Paraná (FUPEF), who presented the strategy and implementation methodology to be developed in this training process, which includes the preparation of several didactic and accessible products to the target group, as well as methods to ensure broad access to them.

In addition to this, FUPEF, together with EUROCLIMA, and in partnership with the National Rural Learning Service (SENAR) and the Brazilian Organisation of Cooperatives (OCB) will work together to ensure dissemination, sustainability and national scaling up of the products of this process.
