Project “Risk management without borders” carries out 4th technical mission to exchange experiences between local governments of Peru, Ecuador, Italy and France.

Within the framework of the activities, the results and achievements of the project will be presented to the authorities.

Loja, Ecuador, 04 May 2021. In the framework of the binational project "Risk Management without Borders", financed by the European Union through the Euroclima Plus programme and implemented by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation and the French Development Agency, the fourth Technical Mission for the exchange of experiences between local governments of the four partner countries (Italy, France, Ecuador and Peru) began in the city of Loja, Ecuador, with a view to learning about the experience developed in vulnerable sectors and its replication in other risk scenarios. 

The technical mission will extend from 3 to 6 May, starting in Loja, Ecuador and ending in the Piura region of Peru, where training events will be held for the firefighters of the province of Loja, which will be facilitated by a member of the Fire Department of L'Aude - France. The results of the project will also be presented with the important participation of authorities, technicians of the local governments of the Ecuadorian and Peruvian side and European partners, who have shown willingness to work and have assumed the commitment to give sustainability to the processes initiated by the project.

The technical mission will assess the actions implemented in the border territory, actions that have generated awareness among the population; participatory construction of technical and legal tools; strengthening the capacities of decision makers, institutions and the community; knowledge and establishment of protocols for an efficient response, implementation of mitigation and adaptation measures to climate change; and implementation of Early Warning Systems.

Agenda of the technical mission 

  • 04 May: tour in the Ecuadorian territory of the basin (Ecuador); in the places of Cariamanga, canton Calvas and Zapotillo
  • 05 May: the technical mission will travel to the Peruvian territory to visit the lower part of the Catamayo Chira Watershed, in order to learn about the Risk Prevention Plans and Early Warning Systems.
  • 06 May: a technical-political meeting will be held in order to learn about the challenges and perspectives of the project.

The project "Risk Management without Borders" is co-executed by the Regional Government of Piura in Peru, through the regional management of Natural Resources and Environmental Management, and the Provincial Prefecture of Loja in Ecuador. It is funded by the European Union through the Euroclima+ programme and implemented by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) and the French Development Agency (AFD) in partnership with the Meurthe et Moselle Department of France, L'observatoire des changements en Amérique Latine (Local), L'Aude Department of France and the Province of Viterbo.
