Support to the use of the Escazú Agreement - Regional

In order to contribute to the protection of the right of all persons of present and future generations to live in a healthy environment and for sustainable development, the Escazú Agreement is the first regional environmental treaty in Latin America and the Caribbean that guarantees the full and effective exercise of the rights of access to environmental information, public participation in environmental decision-making processes and access to justice in environmental matters.

In this context, this action is intended to support the public analysis of relevant climate initiatives, the exchange of experiences among LAC countries on public consultation processes on climate public policies and their consistency with the Escazú Agreement.

Objectives

Main Objective

To contribute to the implementation of the Paris Agreement, in particular its Article 12, on cooperation between countries in taking appropriate measures to improve education, training, public awareness and participation, and public access to information on climate change and its timely implementation of relevant climate policies.

Specific Objective

Support the exchange of experiences among Latin American and Caribbean countries on public consultation processes about climate public policies and on initiatives to promote public training, awareness and participation and public access to information on climate change through the implementation of the Escazú Agreement.
