More than 32,000 agroforestry seedlings were delivered to the Andurco sectors of the Ayabaca District and Santa Rosa of the Suyo District, located in the province


of Ayabaca.

December 10, 2019. (Ayabaca) - Peru. Through the European Union’s EUROCLIMA+ Programme and under the framework of the Risk Management component implemented by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) and the French Development Agency (AFD), the “Binational Project for the Reduction of the Vulnerability of the Population and its Livelihoods, against the Threats of Droughts and Floods in Border Territories of Ecuador and Peru” is promoted. Also known as “Risk Management without Borders”, the project delivered more than 32,000 agroforestry seedlings in the Andurco sectors of the Ayabaca District and Santa Rosa of the Suyo District, located in the province of Ayabaca.

In the community of Andurco, with the important participation of Atty. Fany Tores Paucar, deputy regional manager of Environmental Management of the Regional Government of Piura, Eng. Rosa Vasquez, PPGRSF technician and president of the environment and natural resources commission of the provincial municipality of Ayabaca, and Ronald Castillo Rosales, 2,000 eucalyptus and alder seedlings were delivered for planting on 3 hectares of land owned by the community. Also present was the Principal of the Edwin Gamonal school and community representative Mr. Max Peña Castillo, along with students and parents who have made a commitment to protect the ecosystems, recover the watersheds, and improve quality of life for families.

In the community of Santa Rosa, 30,000 fig, mahogany, eucalyptus and false oak seedlings, as well as coffee and cocoa species were delivered, which will benefit a total of 42 families from the villages of Nueva Esperanza, Santiago, La Laguna, El Frayle, Catacaos, Saryuyu, Sapallal and Santa Rosa. The event was attended by Edar Troncos Ojeda, mayor of the Suyo district, Segundo Castillo, president of the Santa Rosa community, and inhabitants from the different villages, who expressed their appreciation for the project and the importance of supporting the communities of the Piurana mountains.

“With these seedlings, we will not only reforest, but also generate income for our families and for future generations. Coffee and cocoa are plants that help us with the family economy. By planting a tree in our communities, we save our land, our animals, our crops,” said Segundo Castillo Saavedra, president of the community of Santa Rosa.

This delivery was made on December 4 and 5 and in the next few days there will be deliveries to other districts where nurseries are being implemented, such as Jililí, Sicchez and Montero.
