Networking will guide EUROCLIMA+ projects under the Risk Management component framework implemented by AECID and AFD

February 21, 2019, Cartagena de Indias. With the participation of representatives of all the projects that will be financed with resources of the European Union, under the framework of the EUROCLIMA+ programme, the workshop for the Coordination and Planning of Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Projects ended in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia today.

María José Pro, Technical Adviser of the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development (AECID), stressed the importance of continuing to strengthen networking in order to generate useful information for decision making and thus achieve a greater impact on the generation of public policies for risk management.

In this event held from February 19 to 21, work sessions were held with the technical, financial and communication teams for each of the projects with the objective, among others, of reviewing and validating the logical frameworks, the monitoring systems and actions for budget execution and accountability. Finally, the communication specialists defined priorities to be executed in the areas of content production and actions to enhance visibility, communication and knowledge management.

“The integration and harmonisation of these three technical, financial and communication areas are a basic element for ensuring our results, but we must reflect on the need to strengthen capacities in these matters that we are working on; this would not only generate added value for our countries, it would also support the results of the systems and processes that we will promote in each project,” said Rodney Martínez, Director of the International Centre for the Investigation of the El Niño Phenomenon (CIIFEN).

At the end of the activity, Luis Sonzini, Cooperation Advisor of the European Union Delegation in Nicaragua, recalled that “...we have the human being at the centre and we cannot lose this perspective. Risk Management is indispensable because we are also saving lives. For this reason, the European Union expects creative and novel processes and results from you; we must continue to replicate positive impacts."

In the coming months, workshops are being planned to launch the seven projects of this component of the EUROCLIMA+ programme. The results of each event will also be communicated on the EUROCLIMA+ website.
