The initiatives will contribute to community development in protected areas and environmental conservation in the department of Izabal - Guatemala

Puerto Barrios - Guatemala February 12. In a public ceremony held at the Izabal University Centre (CUNIZAB) in Guatemala, agreements were signed for the implementation of seven productive community projects. These local initiatives belong to entrepreneurs interested in tourism development, conservation in protected areas, and they are the ones that were presented in the public call made in 2019 by the project Forests, Biodiversity and Community Development, which is part of the EUROCLIMA+ programme with funding from the European Union.

The project is implemented in Guatemala and Honduras by the consortium led by the Comitato Internazionale per lo Sviluppo dei Popoli (CISP) together with the Local Environmental Management Programme Association (ASOPROGAL), the National Council of Protected Areas (CONAP) of Guatemala, as well as the organisation Omoa Conservation Bodies (CCO) of Honduras.

Approximately seven hundred thousand Quetzals (Q. 700,000.00) were granted, an investment that is focused on supporting the ideas of local entrepreneurs, who have identified the opportunity to execute economic activities within protected areas such as the Río Dulce National Park, Sierra de las Minas, Cerro San Gil, and contribute to community development and environmental conservation in Guatemala.
