During the meeting, interest was shown in positioning sustainable forest management on the national climate change agenda

Bolivia, January 30, 2020.  Representatives from three projects of the Forests, Biodiversity and Ecosystems (FBE) component participated in a meeting with Mario Zenteno Claros, Executive Director of the Plurinational Authority of Mother Earth (APMT) and the new National Focal Point for EUROCLIMA+ projects.

The meeting was attended by Marcos Terán, Executive Director of ACEAA and project coordinator Luis Arteaga representing “Amazon Forests and Climate Change”; Edwin Camacho from Bosques del Mundo; and Patricia Patiño from APCOB, representing the project “Non-Carbon Benefits”; and Nelson Flores, responsible for the project “Living and Producing in the Chaco Forest”, from Nativa. Also present was Jorgue Salguero García, Programme Officer of the European Union Delegation in Bolivia.

During the meeting an explanation was given of the process to call for, select and structure projects of the FBE component of the EUROCLIMA+ programme. Also highlighted were the roles of the different co-executing partners of the projects, objectives, expected results, territorial and beneficiary coverage, as well as a summary of the status and progress of the projects.

Mario Zenteno Claros, Executive Director of APMT, explained that in view of the great challenge that climate change adaptation and mitigation represent, the contribution that can be made by civil society, in addition to the efforts that the State has been making, is important for current management.

In this context, the expectation is to continue with the process of assigning FBE component projects to the "Joint Mechanism for Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation", which will be resumed during the month of February, with the aim of contributing to the scaling-up of sustainable forest management for climate change adaptation and mitigation.

The information presented was well received by the APMT and elements of interest were found to position sustainable forest management on the national climate change agenda and to contribute practical experiences to adaptation and mitigation in Bolivia.

In addition, it was agreed that the organisations executing the projects of the FBE component will provide support from the networks and thematic roundtables for working with civil society in which these organisations participate, with inputs for the reports and possible revision of the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC).
