Projects initiate activities with a focus on forests and local communities

Summary of the main project activities for the FBE component - June 2019

June 28, 2019. Learn about the main activities, field trips and knowledge resources generated by the projects of the Forest, Biodiversity and Ecosystems (FBE) component.

The FBE component projects, executed by the Expertise France and GIZ agencies, began implementation in early 2019, in different areas of intervention at the local level, including protected areas, forests, parks and nature reserves, watersheds and sub-basins, in local communities and municipalities in the 12 countries of the region.

The joint launch of the projects was carried out in January of this year, in Valle de Bravo, Mexico, where the implementing partners, national focal points and the implementing agencies of EUROCLIMA + participated.

Starting in February, the projects organised launch events in their respective countries. Below are the main impacts generated:

Meet some of the protagonists

Marcela Machaca, President of the Bartolomé Aripaylla Association (ABA - Ayacucho, Peru) tells us about the technique of harvesting water and how it developed from a scenario of scarcity.

Mateo Bermudez, coordinator of the binational Honduras-Peru project “Improving land use governance and management" commented on the objectives sought by the project and the importance of cooperation between the two countries. Prepared by Helvetas Honduras.

Gustavo Solano, director of the binational project “Ecosystem services, goods and functions", explains how the project will improve the water supply in Guanacaste (Costa Rica) through water harvesting, and how in Peru, through the application of a payment system for ecosystem services and a water canon in Piura and Ayacucho, will generate incentives to conserve forests.

Tours and field visits

In line with the objectives that these projects aim to achieve, a series of resources are being developed that are contributing to managing and sharing the knowledge generated to date, through tours and field visits.
