The "Forest Value Chains" project provided information to sustainably use forest resources and generate greater opportunities in the communities

Honduras, November 18, 2020. In order to create and strengthen local enterprises, the Federation of Agroforestry Producers of Honduras (FEPROAH), through the Forestry Value Chains project of the EUROCLIMA+ Programme, held an in-person workshop on October 15, with 30 families from the Brisas del Lago Association, located in the community of Horconcitos, municipality of Zapaca, department of Santa Barbara, in Honduras. In this community, young people and women are establishing a community nursery to be used in the reforestation processes that are being developed as part of the sustainable management plans for the tropical forest.

The community has land available for the cultivation of lemons and avocados, products that currently arrive from neighbouring areas and are resold to farm owners or distributors at roadside stalls. In this context, during the entrepreneurship workshop we reflected on the importance and possibilities of consolidating enterprises to provide the community with products that are usually consumed and that can also be used in the reforestation process.

During the workshop, topics such as product analysis, market characterisation, competition, commercialisation, legal aspects and financial analyses were addressed, which are fundamental for the creation of a small business.

"This meeting has given us new ideas about what we want and can do in our community. We obtained information on forestry to generate resources through the rational use of our forests". Amalia Hernández, partner member of the Brisas del Lago Association.

Families from the municipalities of Comayagua and Yamaranguila, located in the department of Intibucá, also received training to develop enterprises. In the Yaruca community, in La Ceiba, Atlántida, workshops were held on REDD+, biodiversity and land management.
