Resilient Food Production launches a Webinar Series to promote exchanges between sectors of the EUROCLIMA+ Programme.

Organised by the GIZ/Expertise France team of the RFP component, the webinars aim to strengthen potential links and synergies with other sectors

to achieve the NDCs of the countries.

Bogotá, Colombia, September 17. With the title “Advances in Climate Action in Latin America: Nationally Determined Contributions to 2019”, the series of thirteen thematic web seminars that the RFP component will carry out between September 2019 and November 2020 began to strengthen different capacities of the EUROCLIMA+ Programme sectors.

The Programme pursues the specific objective that Latin American countries have advanced in the implementation of their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) to the Paris agreement in order to reduce national emissions and adapt to the repercussions of climate change.

From the perspective of the RFP sector, there are multiple potential linkages and synergies with other sectors to achieve the countries' NDCs. The programme is generating valuable experiences with subsidies and technical assistance for 10 projects in the RFP sector, plus the complementary experiences of projects in other sectors that touch on topics of common interest, such as water, soil and biodiversity management; hydrological risk prevention; horizontal and vertical inter-institutional articulation to integrate NDCs into sectoral or local development plans; financing mechanisms for climate-resilient family farming; or monitoring and adaptation reporting.

This Series of Webinars facilitates intersectoral exchange among key programme actors to promote the strengthening of technical and methodological capacities based on experiences that the programme generates through its technical assistance and grants to projects in the countries.

Training is primarily addressed to EUROCLIMA+ National Focal Points and their delegates, and to the representatives of the organisations involved in the implementation of the projects subsidised by the programme in all sectors.

The first webinar was given by Hernán Blanco, Programme Director of the AVINA Foundation, who presented the outstanding messages of the new EUROCLIMA+ thematic study on NDC implementation in Latin America: “Advances in Climate Action in Latin America: Nationally Determined Contributions to 2019”.

The study was developed as part of the of the EUROCLIMA+ Climate Governance Component initiative “Dialogue among peers to improve NDC implementation in Latin America” through an alliance between GIZ and ECLAC with support from the Avina Foundation.

The study systematises and characterises the progress of 18 Latin American countries towards an effective implementation of their NDCs, identifying mechanisms to increase ambition for the NDCs, as well as the possibilities of peer learning and support from international cooperation. The document focuses on the key aspects of NDC implementation, including the process of determining the primary NDC aspects, politico-legal-institutional, social and financial, with a special emphasis on intersectoral and multilevel coordination for NDC governance.

The next two webinars will be “EUROCLIMA+ Climate Change Adaptation Monitoring”, to be held on October 15, and “Contributions to the NDCs of the countries involved proposed by the subsidised projects in the Resilient Food Production (RFP) sector”, to be held on November 11.
