The virtual course “Reference framework for the implementation of the Paris Agreement in the agricultural sector” has started.

 5 July 2021, several countries - The self-learning virtual course "Conceptual Basis of the Paris Agreement and NDCs in the agri-food sector" starts today, organised by Expertise France and GIZ in the framework of the Resilient Food Production sector of the EUROCLIMA+ programme, in cooperation with the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the Chilean Presidency of CoP25, the Platform for Climate Action in Agriculture (PLACA) and the Office of Agrarian Studies and Policies of the Chilean Ministry of Agriculture (ODEPA).

The objective of this course is to provide materials and space to strengthen participants' conceptual capacities on the reference framework of the Paris Agreement and the NDCs, adaptation and mitigation strategies in the agricultural sector, as well as the topics of climate finance, monitoring and climate transparency. At the end of the course, participants are expected to recognise the importance of the sector in implementing the NDCs in their country. With this training EUROCLIMA+ offers to strengthen the capacities of 16 regional technical committees on climate change of the Chilean Ministry of Agriculture, member countries of the Platform for Climate Action in Agriculture (PLACA) and the Secretariat of the Chilean Presidency of CoP25. They will get an overview of the reference framework for the implementation of the Paris Agreement and its NDCs in the food sector.

The training is offered on the EUROCLIMA+ Virtual Academy platform for the Resilient Food Production sector with expert facilitation. The course is modular and the 12 hours of theory can be studied in 5 thematic modules. These modules provide materials for individual desk study with thematic videos, self-organised individual reading, online forums, and webinars for the opening and closing of the course. In addition, for those interested in generating a practical experience of multiplication, a 10-hour assignment is offered for preparing, implementing and documenting a multiplication space in their work context.

This course is part of the contribution made by the European Union, through its EUROCLIMA+ programme to Chile in its role as President of the 25th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, to promote climate action in Chile, Latin America and the Caribbean. 

The European Union (EU) is a key strategic partner in climate action and in connecting the dots between the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals, in support of achieving the objectives of the Paris Agreement. Along these lines, Chile agreed to work jointly with the EU on the preparation and organisation of COP 25.
