NbS have played a central role in the discussions at the Conferences of the Parties (COPs) in recent years, especially at the COP 26 in Glasgow, Scotland. Despite the fact that NbS are widely recognized as effective measures to address the challenges associated with climate change, there are still some challenges to their implementation.
Among them are challenges related to gathering the necessary data for designing actions, assessing their effectiveness, monitoring benefits, governance for their execution (including the necessary regulatory frameworks) and financing. This policy summary focuses on the challenges associated with promoting and facilitating the financing for NbS that these projects need to address in order to ensure the implementation and sustainability of these measures.

La participación de los pueblos indígenas en la acción climática es ampliamente reconocida como un elemento crucial para formular políticas incluyentes y efectivas. Ello no sólo se debe a que los pueblos indígenas reciben impactos relativamente mayores, resultantes de los efectos del cambio climático y la pérdida de biodiversidad, sino también porque poseen conocimientos, tecnologías y prácticas tradicionales para la mitigación y adaptación ante el cambio climático.
Esta publicación brinda una síntesis sobre la situación actual de los pueblos indígenas y la acción climática en los países de América Latina y el Caribe (ALC) en los que se implementa el sector temático BBE del programa EUROCLIMA+.
El presente documento es una compilación de los aprendizajes y buenas prácticas de las iniciativas que forman parte del Sector de Eficiencia Energética del Programa EUROCLIMA. Para su elaboración se basó en los principales resultados de un proceso de sistematización e intercambio del primer encuentro sectorial de Eficiencia Energética del Programa EUROCLIMA en el Centro de Formación de la Cooperación Española en Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia.
The project “Green Economic Recovery: Mobilizing investments towards a low-emission and climate-resilient economy in Latin America and the Caribbean” aimed to support selected LAC countries (Argentina, Costa Rica, Grenada, Honduras and Panama) to address the main barriers faced by countries when designing, planning and financing post-COVID-19 recovery plans aligned with the Paris Agreement.
The EUROCLIMA+ programme projects in the “Forests, Biodiversity and Ecosystems” (FBE) sector are implemented, in most cases, in regions with indigenous populations.
Nature-based Solutions (NbS) focus on the importance of ecosystems, and the services they provide people, to offer sustainable solutions to social, economic and environmental challenges.
