The regional meeting was held from 2 to 3 October at the ATTON hotel in San Isidro, Lima, and was attended by more than 60 climate change specialists from 18 Latin American countries.
During the inauguration, the European Union Ambassador, Irene Horejs, reminded those present that this year Lima is the capital of the fight against climate change in Latin America, because in December it will host the next COP 20, the Conference that brings together countries from all over the world to discuss and negotiate decisive actions to curb climate change. The ambassador indicated that this COP will give special attention to the region. "The European Union wants COP20 in Lima to be a success; that is why we are supporting Latin America - and Peru - in its preparation for COP20. This seminar is one of the channels for this," concluded the ambassador.
For her part, Catherine Ghyoot, Head of the EUROCLIMA programme for the European Commission said that "(...) as the Regional Indicative Multiannual Programme for Latin America of the Development Cooperation Instrument of the European Union for the period 2014 - 2020 was recently approved, we hope that this IV Seminar will become a space to present and reflect on this line of joint work, in particular on the topic of Environmental Sustainability and Climate Change".
