Mainstreaming the gender perspective in climate action projects: a toolkit

This toolkit is composed of two main sections. The first section briefly explains what is meant by mainstreaming the gender perspective in the project cycle, focusing on issues common to any project, including a brief introduction to relevant gender concepts; the collection of gender information to generate the baseline; the definition of gender objectives, activities and indicators; and the analysis of institutional capacities to carry out gender-responsive activities. This section also includes information tables with examples of gender objectives, activities and indicators and three self-assessment matrices, which can be used by project implementing organisations to measure how well they are incorporating a gender perspective in their actions, or how they can plan for the application of corrective actions to include a gender perspective in their projects.

The second section contains subsections dedicated to each of the sectors on which EUROCLIMA+ focuses its support through projects. Each subsection has a brief introduction that contextualises the links between gender roles and the sector under analysis; as far as possible, this information focuses on the Latin American reality and is based on statistical data found in regional bibliographic sources. Subsequently, each of these sections is accompanied by a series of guiding questions and examples of activities that can be developed by the projects to mainstream the gender perspective in their activities. While the origin of this thematic division stems from the activities and projects supported by EUROCLIMA+, the sectoral contextualisation as well as the guiding questions and examples of possible activities are applicable to similar projects supported by other funding sources.
