From 16 to 18 October, 2016, EcoMobility Days were organised in Quito as a side event of Habitat III. As part of the panel on sustainable public transport in Latin American cities, Johannes Karremans, Team Leader of the Technical Assistance, gave a presentation named "Public transport to reduce GHG emissions, while reducing congestion, noise and local air pollution".
The EcoMobility Days Quito 2016 took place from 16 to 20 October 2016 and were focused on bringing together representatives of cities looking to implement new forms of urban eco-mobility, while to discuss the various forms of cooperation between national, regional and local governments for the design and implementation of sustainable urban development.
The EcoMobility Days Quito 2016 were developed in parallel to the UN Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development - Habitat III. The event is open to accredited persons in Habitat III.
As part of the event, Johannes Karremans has participated in the following sessions:
- The opening plenary of Tuesday, 18 October 2016, named "The Future of urban mobility", in which also participated Monika Zimmermann (Deputy Secretary General of ICLEI), Tania Rödiger-Vorwerk (Deputy Director General of the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development -BMZ), Enrique Peñalosa (Mayor of the City of Bogota) and Sheila Watson (Deputy Director of the FIA Foundation), with Susan Zelinski (Managing Director of SMART at the University of Michigan) acting as a moderator;
- The conference "Sustainable public transport in Latin American cities", that took place on Tuesday, 18 October 2016 with the participation of Luz Dary Botero (Planning Director of the Metro de Medellín, Colombia), Ismael Bagatin França (Project Coordinator of URBS of the city of Curitiba Planning), Eleonora Piriz (Manager of Comprehensive Planning Area of Rosario, Argentina), with Carlosfelipe Pardo (Director of Despacio) acting as a moderator. This presentation was part if this conference.
- In addition, he also acted as a moderator in the session "Financing sustainable urban mobility and implementing mobility within the Sustainable Development Goals", that took place on Sunday October 16, 2016. This session was held by Eduardo Vasconcellos (Advisor, CAF), Ramon Victor Cesar (President of Belo Horizonte Transport Authority, BHTRANS), Matthew Appelbaum (Councillor of the city of Boulder, USA), Janet Sanz (Deputy Mayor for Ecology, Urban Planning and Mobility and Nou Barris District Councillor, Barcelona) and Clarisse Cunha Linke (Country Director of ITDP Brazil).
