EUROCLIMA programme participated at the European Development Days 2016

EUROCLIMA, Regional Cooperation Programme between the European Union and Latin America focused on climate change, participated for the first time at Europe’s leading forum on development and international cooperation. The event was held on 15 and 16 June in Brussels.

The European Development Days (#EDD16), Europe’s leading forum on development and international cooperation, brought together around 5000 participants in Brussels on 15 and 16 June 2016 to find practical solutions to some of the most pressing problems in the world.

The 2016 edition of the European Development Days was focused on the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda and revolved around five major topics: Planet (with climate change as the main component), People, Prosperity, Peace and Cooperation. The event was held in a special moment for the global fight against climate change, with most countries around the world having signed and starting to ratify the Paris Agreement.

EUROCLIMA, the Regional Cooperation Programme between the European Union and Latin America, participated at the event with a stand in the "EDD Village", where it presented the current state of its implementation, as well as the joint work of its partners and participating countries through south-south cooperation.

Moreover, an example of Latin American climate action was provided by Joselin Renée Manzanarez Núñez, a young Nicaraguan who was selected with 15 other young people from around the world to participate during different sessions of the event. Joselin was chosen as part of the contest "Future Leaders" which provided young experts a forum to share their views on shaping the future development policy. She was part of the panel on climate change on 15 June, which also featured the participation of the European Commissioner for Climate Action and Energy, Miguel Arias Cañete.
