Under the Contract signed between SURECO & Partners CORP (contractor) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) (contractor). The deliverable constitutes a report with the main findings, including a data tool in excel format with the results of the mapping exercise of private sector investments available for the climate and biodiversity of the Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) region in the sectors clean energy, water, transport, agriculture, forestry and other land uses (AFOLU), biodiversity and ecosystem-based solutions. This report was executed based mainly on publicly available secondary information.

En este libro se presentan los resultados de más de un decenio de trabajo realizado en la Comisión Económica para América Latina y el Caribe (CEPAL) con relación a la economía del cambio climático. Se analizan los datos concluyentes a nivel mundial y el impacto del cambio climático en la región, examinando sectores como la agricultura, la salud, el transporte y la energía. En particular, se abordan los efectos del cambio climático en las dos subregiones más vulnerables, Centroamérica y el Caribe, y se hace un recuento de los acuerdos logrados en la región para enfrentar el problema del calentamiento global.
El estudio se basó en una encuesta realizada por más de 70 personas de 16 países de la región, y proveerá una herramienta clave para proporcionar información sobre cómo las instituciones en América Latina están considerando el género, y para identificar lo que hace falta para que las acciones de adaptación al cambio climático y las políticas que la habilitan sean inclusivas y sustentables.
The objective of this background document is to support and accompany this process byproviding a brief overview of core elements of an institutional setup to be considered. Thedocument contributes to the UN Environment project Accelerating Climate Action underEuroclima+; it was elaborated by the University of Geneva’s Institute of EnvironmentalGovernance and Territorial Development, with inputs from the Mountain Research Initiative.
Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change reports published in 2022 classified the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) region as “highly exposed, vulnerable and strongly impacted by climate change”. To address this existential threat and align economies with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, governments in the region – and globally – are developing sustainability taxonomies at a rapid pace. However, a lack of comparability between national taxonomies creates hurdles for trade and international capital flows towards low-carbon projects.
