Euroclima+ participates in the pre-COP27 Climate Empowerment Action in Bonn

The programme presents the results and best practices on Climate Empowerment Action in the Latin American region at the ACE Technical Sessions.

Bonn, 10 June 2022 - From 6-16 June, negotiations are taking place in Bonn the negotiations under the SBI framework of the UNFCCC for the dialogues and negotiations leading up to COP27.For this year, open sessions have been organised with the aim of advancing the plan of action for the work programme of Glasgow on Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE).

In this context, the EUROCLIMA+ Programme was invited to participate in order to share the experiences developed in the Action for Climate Empowerment, line, in which different accompaniments to countries in the Latin American region are being carried out to advance the ACE agenda in its six elements..

The open technical workshop on ACE was held on 8 June and was attended by Ina Parvanova, Director of C&E for Climate Change at the United Nations. The session's panel was composed of organisations such as UNESCO, YOUNGO, MEEZE and Euroclima+.

On behalf of EUROCLIMA+, Mª Elena Oliveros Palomo, project technician at the International and Ibero-America Foundation fo Administration and Public Policy, presented the main guidelines of the ACE programme, as well as its ongoing actions. Currently, EUROCLIMA+ is accompanying the development of six national strategies on ACE: Chile, Uruguay, Panama, Costa Rica, Argentina and Colombia; Elena highlighted the importance of including ACE in the Long-Term Climate Strategies. In addition, she presented the work developed in diagnostics that allow the identification of weaknesses that can be addressed within the scope of the programme.

Moreover, she highlighted the role of the Community for Pratical Learning of ACE as a platform for knowledge generation, socialisation of best practices and lessons learned, which is highly valued by the community of practitioners it brings together. The Community currently has more than 70 members from 18 countries in the region.

In conclusion, it is important to highlight the value of regional programmes such as Euroclima+ and their support through peer-to-peer exchange, training and support with technical assistance and expertise.
