Montevideo, March 3, 2020.- The virtual course “Climate change: Fundamental for its Approach” has come to an end, after more than a month of training with a high level of participation.

Developed from January 20 to February 28 by teachers from the Interdisciplinary Centre for Response to Climate Change and Variability (CIRCVC) of the University of the Republic of Uruguay, it was supported by the Euroclima + Programme, through FIIAPP, under the framework of the line of action Education, training and awareness-raising about climate change in Uruguay, under the framework of the National Policy on Climate Change (Uruguay). This is an initiative that Uruguay is implementing to advance the implementation of the National Climate Change Policy and its lines of action linked to education, communication and awareness, coordinated by the National Climate Response System of Uruguay.

The course proposed an approach to the study of climate change from a multidisciplinary, multiscale and complex perspective, taking into account the cross-cutting approaches of the gender and human rights perspectives. The students in this course - 478 people enrolled - were officials and technicians from government agencies, independent professionals and teachers. The tools available for intervention from the perspective of sustainability in the context of public and private management at global and local levels and in their interrelationships were presented.

The motivation and proactivity of the participants was very high on average. In the 5 weeks in which the content presentation was developed there was a daily average of 873 visits to the course site and 95 messages to the forums. The most valuable aspect of this experience was precisely the richness of the exchanges and the spirit of cooperation among the participants and with the teaching team.
