Cuba initiates a dialogue to address its climate commitments under the framework of the Paris Agreement and respond to the State Plan for Confronting

Climate Change, Tarea Vida.

The Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment, with support from the European Union, through its regional EUROCLIMA+ programme, is holding a meeting with national and international actors to advance the definition of actions that contribute to the implementation of policies for addressing climate change in Cuba.

Havana, September 24 - A dialogue table on the national climate agenda will be held on 24 and 25 September in Havana (Cuba), sponsored by the island's Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA), with support from the European Union, through its regional EUROCLIMA+ programme.

The purpose of the meeting is to strengthen dialogue, coordination and collaboration between national actors and international cooperation agencies that contribute to the implementation of national policies for tackling climate change and the international commitments made by Cuba under the framework of the Paris Agreement (nationally determined contributions).

Coordinated by CITMA, sectors such as energy, transport, agriculture, risk management or planning, will present the progress made on the implementation of the State Plan to address climate change, known as Tarea Vida (Life Task).

In addition, together with the international cooperation agencies, the priority actions that require international support for their execution will be analysed and the available funding sources and mechanisms for Cuba will be presented.

It is hoped that this first meeting will lay the foundations for establishing a permanent dialogue and coordination mechanism to attract new cooperation and investment funds to the country, as well as a more efficient management thereof.

Officials from Cuban institutions involved in identifying and implementing climate change mitigation and adaptation measures in different sectors and territories, as well as representatives of international cooperation agencies accredited in Cuba, will attend this dialogue table.

EUROCLIMA+, facilitator of this meeting, is contributing to the establishment of dialogue roundtables on climate change in several Latin American countries, using a participatory methodology that promotes a direct, enriched and continuous exchange. The objective of this process is to support and strengthen, when necessary, the spaces for national articulation, as well as to integrate and plan actions that can be financed by international actors, in line with the priorities and guidelines embodied in the country's public policies and commitments.
