The Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) concluded its 10th annual meeting of the Council of Ministers on Environmental Sustainability (COM:ES)
on July 13 in Anguilla to discuss the development of an environmental sustainability roadmap to 2030.
In accordance with the spirit of the meeting, consisting of seeking solutions to climate monumental challenges facing the region, the Euroclima Team, comprising GIZ, UNDP and Expertise France, held a Partner’s Springboard to develop synergies and foster a more profound sense of cooperation among OECS partners as they work towards achieving favourable outcomes from various initiatives.
During the Springboard, partners considered consolidating the environmental information ecosystem, facilitating an overarching approach involving the entire society, unlocking and leveraging available resources, and promoting and scaling best and proven practices.
The springboard discussions concluded with several key recommendations. It was proposed that the OECS Commission takes on a potential coordination role with Euroclima. The Commission would define a partner engagement strategy, facilitate networking with other stakeholders, organise a roundtable of development partners, and create a central repository for knowledge management and capacity development opportunities. This Council of Ministers Meeting demonstrated that cooperation amongst partners and political leaders is necessary to chart a prosperous future for a better tomorrow and future generations.
