The RAUS holds its III Climate Change Forum with the aim of exchanging experiences on climate change education, taking into account the goals of the NDC and the 2050 strategy.
Bogota, August 27th, 2021 - Last Thursday, August 26th, the III Climate Change Forum took place, organized by the Environmental Network of Sustainable Universities RAUS, with the support of the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, the Ministry of National Education of Colombia and the University of Applied and Environmental Sciences U.D.C.A. The theme was focused on showing the Experiences in Climate Change Education on the occasion of the new goals established in the NDC related to ACE, and the 2050 strategy that the country is to achieve carbon neutrality.
The event was attended by Fátima Andrade, project technician at the International and Ibero-America Foundation for Administration and Public Policy in the EUROCLIMA+ programme, with the presentation "Action for Climate Empowerment". Fatima presented the work developed by the programme from its line of action "Action for Climate Empowerment", which has been accompanying the countries of the region in the design, implementation and development of plans and public policies aimed at complying with Article 12 of the Paris Agreement. Within this framework, national ACE strategies are being developed in Chile, Uruguay, Peru, Argentina and Colombia, with the support of EUROCLIMA+ through FIIAPP.
Throughout the workday, many practical experiences that are being developed in the territory within the field of formal education on climate change were presented, and the new goals established in Colombia's NDC related to Education, Training and Awareness were socialised, including updating the National Policy on Environmental Education, or incorporating climate change into formal education and education for work and human development, among others.
The event was moderated by Dr. Maria Mercedes Callejas from the University of Applied and Environmental Sciences, and was attended by Dr. Jairo Alfonso Téllez, Vice Rector General of the University of Applied and Environmental Sciences U.D.C.A. of Colombia, Dr. Alex Saer, Directorate of Climate Change and Risk Management of the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, Dr. Jenny Vargas Guataquira on behalf of the Ministry of Education, Angela Maria Plata, representing the representing the Environmental Network of Sustainable Universities RAUS; Jairo N. Cárdenas Saavedra, from the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development; Óscar Mercado, representing the Alliance of the Ibero-American Network of Universities for Sustainability and the Environment; Alejandra Gutiérrez and Óscar López Naranjo, from the Government of the Department of Caldas, Erika Andreina López, from the Foundation for the Educational Development of Caldas (FUNDECA), and Óscar Luis Pyszczek from UDCA.
