Amelia, a friendly environmental agent, arrives at the Ceibal educational platform in Uruguay

An audiovisual educational resource that will help to address climate change in the classroom, providing a new narrative tool for schools and teachers in the country.

Amelia is a fictional character who brings to life a young woman concerned about the effects of climate change, an "Environmental Agent" member of the "Global Network for Climate Change Mitigation and Beyond". In her adventures, she will visit different natural spaces affected by climate change, where she will have to make decisions at every turn between options that will have a different impact on the environment. It is an interactive audiovisual labyrinth, which invites the user to decide between the spectrum of possibilities that open up in each episode, with the aim of making them aware of the effect of their daily decisions on mitigation. A resource aimed at facilitating the appropriation of measures against climate change, with the understanding of the importance of micro and individual actions as part of the solution.

Amelia is a friendly environmental agent who faces fun missions. In these 3 interactive adventures, Amelia travels the coast, the city and the countryside of Uruguay, learning about the challenges posed by climate change, overcoming challenges, meeting characters and having fun. When it becomes necessary, Amelia takes action and then all her skills are put to the test. We invite you to explore with Amelia and choose the path you want to follow in these 3 videos.

This work has been developed under the framework of the EUROCLIMA+ programme, with the coordination of the International and Ibero-America Foundation for Administration and Public Policy, the Ministry of Environment of Uruguay, through the National System of Response to Climate Change (SNRCC), and the implementation of Casa del Árbol. It is integrated within the framework of actions developed to accompany plans and public policies that work on promoting Climate Empowerment Action -article 6 of the UNFCCC and 12 of the Paris Agreement, which includes 6 dimensions: education, training, awareness, participation, access to information and international cooperation-.

This initiative aims to advance the "Implementation of lines of action of the National Climate Change Policy (PNCC) related to education, communication and awareness of climate change", which aims to increase knowledge on climate change issues, targeting the general adult public, children and teachers linked to formal and non-formal education.

As an educational resource that can be incorporated into the programmes and curricula of schools in the country, it will be integrated into the repository of the Ceibal Plan, an initiative of the Uruguayan government created in 2007 to guarantee access to education with equal opportunities, technologically supporting the country's educational policies - "every child and adolescent who enters the public education system throughout the country has access to a computer for their personal use with free Internet connection from the educational centre" - and providing the educational community with "a set of programmes, educational resources and providing the educational community with "a set of programmes, educational resources and teacher training that transforms the ways of teaching and learning". These videos are also available on the Ministry of Environment's website and on the Plan Ceibal platform.
