The new administration of Ambato municipality participated in a workshop on key definitions for its new Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan.
June 6, 2019, Quito-Ecuador. The newly installed mayor of Ambato promoted sustainable mobility in his campaign as one of the priority aspects of his work plan, so it was necessary to align this with the EUROCLIMA+ project that the municipality already had underway for the development of a new urban mobility plan.
In this context, a workshop was held where key definitions were taken from what the new administration expects in the sustainable urban mobility plan to be developed through EUROCLIMA+ and how this project can benefit from the activities that the Sustainable Intermediate Cities programme of German Technical Cooperation (GIZ) is conducting in the city through its Urban Laboratory for Sustainable Urban Mobility.
The workshop showed that there is a powerful synergy between the two projects and that the laboratory will help activate various actors in society, channelling their needs and ideas and strengthening the participatory dimension of the sustainable urban mobility plan that the Municipality will work on with support from the European Union-funded EUROCLIMA+ programme.
About the project
Through its urban mobility component, EUROCLIMA+ supports the development of National Urban Mobility Policies (NUMP), Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMP) and pilot projects in selected countries and cities, including Ambato with its project to update its mobility plan. The implementing agencies for the urban mobility component are GIZ and AFD. In Ecuador, the urban mobility component of EUROCLIMA+ is implemented in collaboration with the Sustainable Intermediate Cities Programme.
