RFP Virtual Seminar #8: Ecosystem service-based financial mechanisms with benefits for climate change resilient family agriculture

Print

Date: May 19, 2020.

Time: 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. (Bogotá, Colombia time)

The RFP component's webinar series addresses key issues for the agricultural sector and promotes the exchange of knowledge and best practices to strengthen individual, organizational and institutional competencies for managing NDC-related processes.

Water is a limiting resource for food production and ecosystems in neighbouring areas which play an important role in regulating its availability. The conservation, rehabilitation or management of these ecosystems contributes to this ecosystem service. Financial mechanisms, which value ecosystem services such as regulation of the water cycle, can generate benefits for rural communities and support the resilience of family farming to climate change. In this event, representatives from the Fondo de Páramos y Combate de la Pobreza, Tungurahua, Ecuador, the Fondo Regional del Agua - FORASAN Piura Peru, and AIDER Peru, will share their experiences and recommendations for creating and operating financial mechanisms that promote the conservation of water resources and benefit rural communities.
