A virtual seminar promotes the gender perspective in the cycle of the EUROCLIMA+ programme’s energy efficiency projects.

San Jose, May 29, 2020. Globally, it is estimated that women make up 20% of the energy sector workforce and just over 30% of the renewable energy workforce. In this sense, EUROCLIMA+ continues to work on various awareness-raising and training activities to promote gender equality and equity in the energy efficiency sector.

"We must examine the different roles, needs and opportunities between men and women, boys and girls when developing energy efficiency policies with a gender perspective," mentioned Ana Victoria Rojas, gender expert consultant at EUROCLIMA+.

The energy sector teams of the EUROCLIMA+ programme and the implementing agencies (Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) and the French Development Agency (AFD)) have been trained through a virtual workshop led by the expert in order to ensure compliance with the European Union's Gender Action Plan 2016 - 2020 for the protection of women's and girls' rights and their empowerment. The aim is to promote gender equality by integrating the perspective into their policies, action plans and other measures at the national level.

Energy sector projects will implement the use of practical tools and methodologies such as gender analysis, sex-disaggregated indicators, capacity building and the creation of participatory methods, women's consultation, monitoring, evaluation, and accountability from a gender perspective.
