8 Energy Efficiency projects selected by EUROCLIMA+

The projects aim to strengthen capacities, institutions, public policy regulatory frameworks and monitoring systems that promote energy efficiency.

San José, Costa Rica, August 13, 2019. The “Energy Efficiency” component of EUROCLIMA+, a European Union funded programme, officially published today the eight projects that have been selected from a call for proposals issued in June 2018.

In the context of mitigation, a priority demanded by the region was to promote renewable energy and energy efficiency. Toward this end, the selected projects will help strengthen capacities, institutions, public policy regulatory frameworks and monitoring systems that promote energy efficiency.

About the Energy Efficiency component

The Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) as leader, together with the French Development Agency (AFD) as a partner, are the agencies delegated by the European Commission for the implementation of the Energy Efficiency sector.

Under this framework, on June 1, 2018, an announcement calling for the submission of expressions of interest with preformulated projects was published. It was completed by July 31, 2018.

The selected projects are:

El Salvador, Panama: Training in Energy Efficiency; for Certification of Professionals and Company Accreditations

Argentina, Chile: Greenhouse gas Mitigation and Adaptation to Climate Change Impacts in Latin America by strengthening Energy Efficiency in strategic sectors of Argentina and Chile

Mexico: Formulate climate and energy efficiency policies in Oaxaca in the public and private sectors

Panama, Ecuador, Paraguay: Preparation of the Energy Balance in Useful Energy Terms for Industry, Residential, Transportation and/or Commercial sectors

Cuba: Energy Efficient Buildings (3xE) to contribute to the reduction of fossil fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions

Ecuador: Living LAB for sustainable building

Argentina: Energetically Sustainable Municipal Buildings

Colombia: Programme for strengthening and promoting Energy Efficiency processes for Industrial sectors with high thermal energy demand in Colombia
