Latin American experts shared experience and visions on energy efficiency in Latin America

From 26 to 28 April, experts from various countries such as Argentina, Cuba, Guatemala, Spain, Ecuador, among others, and from various organisations analysed projects, initiatives and the state of energy efficiency in the region. We share an extract of the main lessons learned during this learning and discussion session.

Antigua, Guatemala. 14 June 2021. In the framework of the EUROCLIMA+ Programme, the Spanish Agency for Development Cooperation (AECID) and the Energy, Environmental and Technological Research Centre of Spain (CIEMAT) developed a space for the exchange of knowledge and experiences on efficient building in Spain and Latin America.

From 26 to 28 April, experts from various countries such as Argentina, Cuba, Guatemala, Spain, Ecuador, among others, and from various organisations, including the Latin American Energy Organisation (OLADE), analysed projects, initiatives and the state of energy efficiency in the region.

The current context of Post-COVID recovery opens an opportunity for green recovery in Latin American countries, aiming at a decarbonisation of the energy system. In this regard, investments in areas such as more energy efficient buildings, research and development, job creation, are a priority.

We share with you an excerpt of the main lessons learned during this learning and discussion session.

About the Energy Efficiency sector

The objective of this sector is to contribute to climate change mitigation and adaptation through the implementation of energy efficiency measures, in accordance with the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) assumed by countries under the Paris Agreement.

The actions financed under this sector aim to support countries in their efforts to mitigate and adapt to climate change in the energy sector. Projects are aimed at identifying and financing initiatives that help strengthen capacities, institutions, public policy regulatory frameworks and monitoring systems that promote energy efficiency.

About EUROCLIMA+

EUROCLIMA+ is a programme funded by the European Union to promote environmentally sustainable and climate-resilient development in 18 Latin American countries, particularly for the benefit of the most vulnerable populations.
