Climate change financing opportunities events in the month of July

8 July 2013. July will be an intense month for representatives and experts of Latin America and the Caribbean interested in the exchange of experience on climate change finances. A webinar on this topic will take place on 9 July and the II Regional Dialogue on climate change finance in Latin America and the Caribbean will take place from 29 till 30 July in San Salvador.

On July 9 (10am EST), the Regional Gateway REGATTA organises a webinar with the objective of improving the capacity to international financing opportunities for mitigation and adaptation projects in Latin America and the Caribbean. During this webinar, REGATTA will present their recently published database of financing opportunities (already accessible at: http://cambioclimatico-regatta.org/index.php/en/financing-opportunities), its structure and an analysis of the achieved results. To attend this webinar (in Spanish), you only need to register here: http://kp.iadb.org/Adaptacion/es/CoP-Financiamiento/Paginas/Oportunidades-de-financiamiento.aspx.

This webinar comes at a perfect time in view of the coming II Regional Dialogue about Climate Change finances in Latin America and the Caribbean, which will take place from 29 till 30 July in San Salvador, El Salvador. The objective of this II Dialogue is to continue the discussions, based on relevant country practices and policies in the topic of climate change finances initiated in May 2012 in Tela, Honduras during the I Regional Dialogue on Climate change financing and Efficiency.

In particular, this second edition of the Dialogue aims to inspire and highlight the national procedures on institutional and operational capacity building to access, manage and carry out the accountability of climate change finances. It also aims to strengthen the knowledge exchange in key topics. Finally, this edition will also aim to expand and consolidate the experience and national solutions on topics such as diversification of financial instruments and private sector potential.

Launched in 2012 as a response to the First Dialogue mandate, the online platform, climatefinance.info, contributes to the coming II Dialogue and constitutes an space led my Latin American countries that their representatives use to exchange their views, experience and innovation in climate change financing.

As with the I Dialogue, the EUROCLIMA programme will attend; in fact their representatives are part of the Organisation Committee, co-finances the event, and supports the dissemination and logistics activities. Likewise, the Technical Assistance Director, Mr. Jan Karremans, will be part of the Honour Panel in the opening session.

To take advantage of the presence of EUROCLIMA Focal points in this event, and to analyse the consequences of this dialogue for the EUROCLIMA actions, the Third EUROCLIMA Coordination Workshop will take place on 31 July as a back-to-back event. This Workshop will also aim to look at and analyse the current status of the EUROCLIMA activities and the future of the EUROCLIMA programme.
