EUROCLIMA participates at Adaptation Futures 2016

Effective strategies to finance adaptation measures are key to reduce the climate finance gap. Two interactive sessions will present challenges, opportunities and enabling factors that assure faster access to adaptation finance and integration of adaptation and mitigation in Latin America.

EUROCLIMA participates at this year’s Adaptation Futures conference with two events. Co-hosted by PROVIA, the European Commission and the Government of the Netherlands, the fourth worldwide adaptation conference will be held in Rotterdam from 10 to 13 May 2016.

EUROCLIMA presents alternatives to bridge the climate finance gap

With the event “Bridging the gap: Initiatives for better access to climate finance in Latin America”, EUROCLIMA explores best practices and lessons learned to facilitate faster access to climate funds for adaptation. The session takes place on 12 May at 11:00 and will include presentations by Joseluis Samaniego from the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (UN-ECLAC), Horst Pilger from the European Commission and Gisela Campillo from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Jan Karremans and Guillermo Dascal will represent EUROCLIMA’s Technical Assistance. With successful cases of adaptation finance, the EUROCLIMA session will show innovative ways to bridge the gap between funds available for adaptation and their actual use. Practitioners and scientists are invited to share comparable experiences in order to extract lessons learned across sectors, borders and communities.

EUROCLIMA highlights synergies between adaptation and mitigation

In partnership with the LEDS LAC Platform, EUROCLIMA co-hosts the session “Synergies between adaptation and mitigation: integration of resilience in LEDS in Latin America” on 12 May at 13:45. Adaptation and mitigation agendas are generally designed and carried out separately despite multiple potential synergies between them.

With reflections by government representatives from Chile and Colombia, this session will show how to better integrate adaptation and mitigation policies in development strategies in Latin America. María José Gutierrez Murray, LEDS LAC expert and author of EUROCLIMA’s Thematic Study 9, will provide key considerations on advances in integrating adaptation and mitigation. EUROCLIMA’s Technical Assistance expert Guillermo Dascal will conclude the session.
