Presentation: AFOLU Climate Change Policies in Ecuador

 

During the roundtable "Engaging with Latin America and the Caribbean on Climate Change",  Mr. Eduardo Noboa, Undersecretary of Climate Change, from the Ecuador's Ministry of Environment, presented the "AFOLU Climate Change Policies in Ecuador". The roundtable, which took place in Brussels, Belgium, on 16 and 17 october, had the objetive of advancing climate change policy dialogue among the two regions to identify concrete ways of cooperation.

Mr. Noboa's presentation, given during the agenda's Theme 4 "Land Use, Forests and Sustainable Agriculture", touched upon the following topics:

1. Ecuador's Climate Change institutional and regulatory framework;
2. Ecuador's Climate Change National Strategy 2012-2025 and National Plan 2013 - 2017, which focuses on four priority sectors: energy, AFOLU, ecosystems and water;
3. AFOLU National Policies;
4. Climate Change Management in Ecuador;
5. AFOLU Integrated approach and initiatives and programmes relevant to this sector, in particular:

  • REDD+ National Programme,
  • Forest Conservation Incentives Programme,
  • Sustainable Livestock Programme,
  • Adaptation & Food Security Programme,
  • Climate Change & Water Governance 

    Programme, and 

  •  

    Adaptation to Glacier Retreat and 

    Moorland Conservation Programme.
