Presentation: Cooperation between the European Union and Latin America and the Caribbean

 

During the roundtable "Engaging with Latin America and the Caribbean on Climate Change", Mr. José González y González, Head of Sector "Sustainable Development and Higher Education", DG Development and Cooperation – EuropeAid, European Commission, gave a presentation on the "Cooperation between the European Union and Latin America and the Caribbean - Regional Programmes: EUROCLIMA and LAIF". The roundtable, which took place in Brussels, Belgium, on 16 and 17 october, had the objetive of advancing climate change policy dialogue among the two regions to identify concrete ways of cooperation.

Mr. González y González's presentation, given during Theme 6 of the agenda "Current climate relevant cooperation programmes between the EU, Latin America and the Caribbean", touched upon the following topics:

  1. Institutional and legal framework for political dialogue and cooperation between the EU and LAC;
  2. Programming for cooperation with AL in 2007-2013, bi-lateral and sub​​-regional, regional cooperation and thematic lines;
  3. Cooperation on Climate change between the EU and the Caribbean, "Caribbean Investment Facility" (CIF) and "Global Climate Change Alliance";
  4. Sectoral and political context of climate change;
  5. EUROCLIMA first phase (2010-2013) and second phase (2013 - 2016);
  6. Progress and results achieved - EUROCLIMA;
  7. Synergy with other initiatives and organizations;
  8. "Blending" Instruments of DG EuropeAid, Supporting Actions on Climate Change in AL "Investment facility" (LAIF);
  9. Regional coverage, specific objectives and sectors covered;
  10. Results LAIF 2010-2012;
  11. LAIF regional climate action projects;
  12. LAIF portfolio of projects (2010-2012); and
  13. LAIF in national climate action projects.
